What is an Eyebrow Hair Transplant?
An eyebrow hair transplant is a type of permanent cosmetic procedure performed to make your eyebrows look fuller or to replace the eyebrow hair that has been lost.
The procedure involves the extraction of hair follicles from one part of the body and transplanting these hair follicles to your eyebrows. This can help achieve fuller and more defined eyebrows, eliminating the need to use makeup products to ‘fill in’ the eyebrow hairs.
Who Needs an Eyebrow Hair Transplant?
An eyebrow hair transplant may be required by an individual who is experiencing hair loss or hair thinning in the eyebrow region due to several reasons, including the following:
- Natural aging process
- Genetics
- Injuries, burns, or scars
- Over-plucking of eyebrows
- Medical conditions like alopecia areata, trichotillomania, hypothyroidism, etc.
- Eyebrow hair loss due to radiation or chemotherapy
- Desire to have more defined and fuller eyebrows
How the Eyebrow Hair Transplant Procedure Works
At ALCS Clinic, we use the following step-by-step procedure while providing the best eyebrow hair transplant in India:
Preparation
The first step is having a consultation appointment with our expert cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Sunil Arora.
Our surgeon will examine your eyebrow hair growth and the potential donor area on the scalp. You will be asked about your medical history, medications, and general lifestyle. The surgeon will also discuss the surgical procedure and the potential risks and benefits of the procedure.
You will be asked to stop smoking, avoid direct exposure to the sun, avoid using exfoliating facial products, and stop taking blood-thinning medications a few days before undergoing the procedure.
Procedure
The following steps are followed during the eyebrow hair transplant procedure:
- The procedure is done after administering local anesthesia to prevent any pain during the procedure.
- The hair in the donor area (usually the scalp) is trimmed to make it easier to access.
- The hair follicles are extracted by either using the FUE (follicular unit extraction) technique, where individual hair follicles are extracted using a small punch tool, or FUT (follicular unit transplantation), in which a strip of tissue containing hair follicles is removed through an incision and this strip is dissected to remove the hair follicles separately. The incision made at the donor site is then closed using stitches.
- Small incisions are created by the surgeon in the eyebrow area to make space for the hair grafts.
- The extracted hair follicles are then carefully implanted into the prepared incisions in the eyebrow region. After the graft is fitted into place, the surgeon stitches the transplant region together.
Aftercare and Recovery
It is normal to have scabbing around the eyebrows and the donor region. The scabs usually fall off after 3 to 7 days. The transplanted hair starts falling out after two to three weeks, which is a normal part of the hair growth process. The hair will soon grow back fuller and thicker.
The following post-operative instructions need to be followed to ensure a quick and smooth recovery after the procedure:
- Avoid touching your eyebrows for 24 hours after the procedure.
- You need to use the provided saline follicle spray to improve healing.
- Try to keep your head in an elevated position while sleeping.
- Use a gentle shampoo to wash your face and eyebrows 24 hours after the surgery. Ensure that you pat it dry and do not rub it.
- Do not use scrubs or harsh chemicals in the treatment area.
- Do not use makeup for at least two weeks after the surgery till the incisions are completely healed.
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for one month after surgery.
- Avoid plucking your eyebrows for at least 6 to 12 months after the surgery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Full results from an eyebrow transplant usually become visible within 9 to 12 months. Initially, the transplanted hairs may fall out within two to three weeks, which is normal.
New hair growth generally begins around 3 to 4 months after the procedure. Over time, the hair thickens and blends naturally with the existing eyebrows, giving the appearance of fuller, well-defined eyebrows by the end of the healing period.
The number of grafts required for an eyebrow transplant depends on the individual’s existing brow density and desired shape. On average, 200 to 400 hair grafts per eyebrow are needed to achieve natural-looking results.
Thinner brows or partial restoration may require fewer grafts, while complete reconstruction may need more number of hair grafts. Your surgeon will assess your needs during the consultation to determine the exact graft count needed for you.
Yes, an eyebrow transplant can look very natural when performed by an experienced surgeon like Dr. Sunil Arora.
Hair grafts are carefully placed to match the natural growth direction and angle of eyebrow hair. The result is a fuller, well-shaped brow that blends naturally with the patient’s facial features. Since the patient’s own hair is used for the transplant, the color and texture match also enhance the natural appearance.
Yes, you can pluck or trim your transplanted eyebrows, but only after they have fully healed, which is generally after a few months.
Since the transplanted hair is taken from the scalp hair, it may grow longer than natural eyebrow hair and need regular trimming. Plucking should be done carefully to maintain the desired shape and avoid damaging the new follicles.
The eyebrow hair transplant recovery time is generally quick. Most people can return to normal activities within a day or two after surgery. Mild redness, swelling, or scabbing may occur around the treated area for about a week.
Transplanted hairs may fall out in the first month, which is a normal part of the healing process. New hair growth usually begins after 3 to 4 months, with full results seen in 9 to 12 months.
