Do YOU NEED A Rhinoplasty SURGERY?

Rhinoplasty is a popular cosmetic surgery that helps to enhance one’s appearance, improve confidence, and enhance the overall personality of a person. It is usually an elective aesthetic procedure, but can also be an essential form of treatment for those suffering from some kind of breathing issues or in cases of emergency facial trauma.

Rhinoplasty is usually performed only after the nose and the face are developed fully and completely. Ideally, 18 years or above is the ideal age to undergo this procedure.

The rhinoplasty procedure is usually performed to improve a crooked nose, to remove a dorsal hump from the nose, or in cases of severe facial trauma where nose reconstruction is required.

ALCS Clinic offers the best rhinoplasty in Indore under the expert care and guidance of Dr. Sunil Arora, the best cosmetic surgeon in Indore.

    What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose job or nose reshaping, is a surgery that changes the shape and size of the nose.

The procedure is performed to change the appearance of a person’s nose, improve breathing, or both.

The upper portion of the nose structure is the bone and the lower portion is the cartilage. Rhinoplasty can help change the appearance of the bone, cartilage, skin over the nose, or all three. Your plastic surgeon will let you know if rhinoplasty is right for you and what the procedure is likely to achieve in your case.

    • To open the blocked nasal passages in case of a deviated nasal septum
    • To restore breathing following a disease, traumatic injury, cancer treatment, or burns
    • To repair a broken nose or facial fracture

What Are the Different Types of Rhinoplasty Treatments?

Rhinoplasty can be classified into the following two main types:

    • Open rhinoplasty: This procedure involves major reshaping of the nose. The cosmetic surgeon will completely separate the skin of the nose from the bone and cartilage lying underneath in this type of procedure.
    • Closed rhinoplasty: This is a minor nose reshaping and less invasive rhinoplasty procedure. The cosmetic surgeon will make incisions inside the nose to separate the skin from the bone and cartilage to reshape it in this type of procedure.

Other types of rhinoplasty procedures that can be performed using one of the above two techniques include:

    • Functional rhinoplasty: It is a type of reconstructive surgery that helps restore the appearance and function of the nose after a disease, traumatic injury, or cancer treatment. It can also be used for correcting a deviated septum or congenital defects.
    • Tip plasty: This type of procedure focuses on reshaping only the tip of the nose.
    • Cosmetic rhinoplasty: This treatment is done only for cosmetic purposes, that is, to improve the appearance of the nose and the face.
    • Non-surgical / filler rhinoplasty: It is a type of cosmetic rhinoplasty involving the use of dermal fillers to fill the irregularities and dips in the nose temporarily. The procedure can help correct a tiny bump or lift a droopy nose tip.
    • Secondary / revision rhinoplasty: This type of surgery helps revise or correct any issues that develop after undergoing the first rhinoplasty surgery.

How to Prepare for a Rhinoplasty?

The first step for undergoing rhinoplasty is having a consultation appointment with an experienced plastic surgeon. The surgeon will determine if you are the right candidate for rhinoplasty during this appointment.

During your consultation appointment, the surgeon will ask you questions and reasons for opting for the procedure. The surgeon will examine the nose and your facial features carefully.

You will be asked about your medical history and the surgeon will take photographs of your nose from different angles.

The surgeon will discuss your expectations from the procedure and also let you know what is practically possible for you. You can discuss any other concerns or queries that you may have with the surgeon during this appointment.

Once the rhinoplasty surgery is scheduled for you, you will be asked to follow some preparatory instructions like:

    • Undergo recommended diagnostic tests to check if you are in good physical health to undergo the procedure.
    • Stop smoking for at least two weeks before undergoing rhinoplasty.
    • Avoid taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin a few days before surgery.
    • You may be given instructions on what you can or cannot eat and drink before undergoing the procedure.

How is the Rhinoplasty Procedure Performed?

A rhinoplasty procedure may be done under local anesthesia (numbing your nose), intravenous sedation (relaxes you before the procedure), or general anesthesia (puts you to sleep before the procedure). After the administration of anesthesia, the following steps are carried out to complete a rhinoplasty procedure:

    • The surgeon will make an incision on the inside of the nostrils for a closed rhinoplasty. Alternatively, an incision may be made across the base of the nose for an open rhinoplasty.
    • The skin covering the nasal bones and cartilage is then raised by the surgeon.
    • The surgeon will now reduce, add to, or rearrange the underlying nasal bone and cartilage to help create a new shape for the nose or to fix a deviated nasal septum.
    • The skin covering the nasal bones and cartilage is then placed back.
    • Small stitches or sutures are then used by the surgeon to secure the skin in its place.

A rhinoplasty surgery usually takes between one to three hours to complete. At ALCS Clinic, we offer painless, comfortable, and result-oriented rhinoplasty treatment in Indore under the expertise of the best plastic surgeon in Indore.

What Happens After a Rhinoplasty Surgery?

After a rhinoplasty surgery, you can expect the following:

    • A tiny plastic splint may be placed inside your nose to reduce swelling and maintain the new shape of the nose as it heals. You will need to wear the splint for approximately one to two weeks after surgery.
    • A cotton gauze or packing may also be placed inside the nose. The surgeon usually recommends removing this packing 24 to 48 hours after rhinoplasty surgery.
    • It is normal to have some swelling, bruising, and pain around the nose and eye area. It may take several weeks for the swelling to resolve. There may be some facial swelling seen, especially in the morning time, for up to one year after a rhinoplasty surgery.
    •

How is the Recovery After Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Most patients can go home on the same day or the day after undergoing a rhinoplasty surgery and can resume work one to two weeks after the procedure.

Complete recovery following a rhinoplasty surgery could take up to one year. You will have facial swelling for approximately four to six weeks after undergoing the surgery. This swelling should gradually reduce after three months. Between 3 to 12 months, there may still be some swelling as the nose is still healing.

The final results of rhinoplasty are only visible after complete healing, which usually takes about one year. However, the recovery timeline may vary for different people.

To allow the nose to heal properly in the first couple of weeks following a rhinoplasty surgery, you need to follow some instructions, like:

    • Sleep with your head in an elevated position.
    • Apply cool compresses, but not ice, to the cheeks or under the eyes.
    • Avoid any kind of impact on your face.
    • Avoid putting excessive pressure on the bridge of the nose when wearing eyeglasses.
    • Limit direct exposure to the sun.
    • Avoid blowing your nose.
    • Do not lift anything heavy or do strenuous exercises for four to six weeks after rhinoplasty surgery.
    • Take prescribed pain-relieving medicines to get relief from any soreness or discomfort after the procedure.
