How Safe Is A Tummy Tuck?

Anyone looking for a tummy tuck has a primary question in their minds, “How safe is a tummy tuck procedure?” and start looking online “Is it safe to get a tummy tuck?”. To put their minds at ease, the tummy tuck is considered one of the world’s most popular and lowest risk cosmetic surgeries. However, there are certain hazards associated with it. For example, pain ranging from mild to sometimes excruciating (often for 3-4 days), bleeding, slow healing of wounds, scarring, infection, numbness, etc. But these risks are dependent on various factors, mainly regarding the patient’s body, health and immune system. But the best plastic surgeons ensure your safety during the procedure, and the treatment can lower these risks. Once you move past the question “Are tummy tucks safe?” This procedure can radically revamp your standard of living. People who have had excessive weight loss or women post-pregnancy tend to experience excess skin and stretch marks around their belly. The tummy tuck can resolve this issue. But it is necessary to consult a doctor to understand more and seek an answer to ‘is tummy tuck safe for me?’ You may visit ALCS India or book an appointment with Dr Sunil Arora.

Identify The Benefits

The main benefit of tummy tuck is that people who go through it do it to make themselves feel better about their appearance. The primary purpose of tummy tuck is to tighten the loose skin and fascia and eliminate excess fat. Weak fascia and abdomen muscles also relate to a laid back posture. After the procedure, due to the tightening of fascia, the patients notice an improved posture. Weak belly muscles can also induce an abdominal hernia (because of the intestine pushing through the weak belly muscles), which a tummy tuck can prevent.

How Do You Prepare?

The first step to any surgery or treatment is to consult a doctor. So, book an appointment with a plastic surgeon to understand everything about the tummy tuck. The doctor takes the following steps before the surgery:

  • Review the patient’s medical history: To ensure that you are appropriate for a tummy tuck, the doctor will review your medical history to check whether you have any allergy, disease, medical condition or have had any past surgeries. You also need to mention any prescribed drugs or body supplements you are consuming. If the tummy tuck is associated with weight loss, the doctor may ask about the weight before and after the transformation.
  • Physical Exam: After reviewing your medical history, the doctor examines your skin and abdominal area to check if an issue could hinder the treatment.
  • Review the patient’s expectations: You can ask the doctor questions like “Is tummy tuck safe?” or “How safe is a tummy tuck?”. You may also talk to your doctor about what you expect from the tummy tuck, which can help the doctor describe the risk factors, benefits and safety.

Anyone can have a tummy tuck, but not everyone is an appropriate candidate for it. Only the doctor can evaluate the risks associated with it after reviewing the patient.

After The Procedure

The post-operative care team helps you move the same day after the surgery to prevent any blood clots.  After the tummy tuck, you need to wear a dressing and an abdominal binder to provide abdominal support and prevent any fluid build-up. Tubes are inserted through the snicks for drainage of excess fluids. The after-surgery pain can be moderated with the help of medications.  The patients often ask, “After the tummy tuck, is it safe to play sports”. The answer to that is no because you need to be careful with your movements not to stress the operated area.  The doctor will also schedule your regular check-ups for your dressing and ensure that there is no development of any infection.

Result

A tummy tuck removes excess fat and tightens your belly skin and fascia, providing you with a flat belly, resulting in a radically revamped appearance and posture. If you maintain your weight and focus on your diet, the tummy tuck can be long-lasting.  It is advised that you consult a plastic surgeon that is comfortable with you asking the right questions and explains every aspect of a tummy tuck, including the benefits and the risks associated with it.  To know more, do stop by the ALCS Clinic or book an appointment online with Dr Sunil Arora for a consultation.

Superfoods to Eat If You’re Experiencing Hair Loss

Wondering what to eat to stop hair fall immediately? With the dynamic lifestyle and unbalanced diet, knowing what to eat for hair growth has increased importance amongst the youth. Therefore, below we list the foods to eat for hair loss prevention.

Eggs

Protein and biotin are the two nutrients that promote healthy hair growth, and eggs contain them in abundance. Hair follicles are mostly made of proteins. Hence, it is necessary to involve an adequate amount of protein in your diet. Conversely, lack of protein can lead to hair loss. In addition, biotin is vital for producing a hair protein known as keratin, and hence, biotin supplements are a favourite hair product. According to research, biotin consumption can lead to hair growth in people who have less biotin. Eggs also contain zinc, selenium and other nutrients that benefit hair growth. Conversely, the deficiency of any of these nutrients can lead to hair loss. Thus, eggs are important food to eat for hair growth.

Berries

Berries contain high levels of compounds and vitamins. Hence, they are an excellent addition to your best diet for hair growth. Berries also have vitamin C that has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are vital for the protection of hair follicles from harmful free radical molecules. Unfortunately, these molecules are found in the environment and our bodies. Were you aware that a cup of strawberries can fulfil 141% of your daily vitamin C requirement? Collagen strengthens hair and prevents it from getting brittle or breaking. Vitamin C is needed for the production of collagen. Importantly, vitamin C also plays a role in iron absorption. As we know, iron deficiency causes anaemia which can lead to hair loss. So, when you eat strawberries rich in vitamin C, you are helping your body produce collagen and absorb the iron that promotes hair growth.

Spinach

Spinach is known as a healthy green vegetable. It contains folate, iron, vitamin A and C, which lead to healthy hair growth. Vitamin A is necessary for the skin glands to produce sebum. It is an oily substance that moisturises the scalp and keeps the hair healthy. A cup of spinach fulfils 54% of your vitamin A needs. Since iron is needed for hair growth, spinach, a plant source of iron, can answer your question, what to eat for hair growth?

Fatty Fish

Fatty fishes like salmon, herring and mackerel have hair growth-promoting nutrients in them. Omega-three fatty acids are often linked to hair growth, and they are present in fatty fish. A study was conducted with 120 women, and the conclusion was that those consuming omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids with antioxidants had a better hair density and less hair loss. Fish supplements increase hair growth and reduce hair loss. However, to make firm recommendations, health experts need more proven studies. Additionally, fatty fish have protein, selenium, vitamin D3 and B, which makes them a good answer for ‘what to eat to stop hair fall immediately?’ and related queries.

Along with dietary changes, understanding how to prevent hair loss naturally can help you maintain long-term hair health without aggressive treatments.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene. The body converts it into vitamin A which promotes the healthy growth of hair. If you eat a single sweet potato, you get almost four times the beta-carotene needed to produce the required vitamin A in a day. Vitamin A is found to encourage sebum production that keeps the hair healthy. Additionally, vitamin A can lead to faster growth of thicker hair while maintaining the other hair follicles.

Avocados

Avocados are an excellent healthy fat source that tastes delicious! Vitamin E is also found in avocados that can help with hair growth. Vitamin E is a similar antioxidant to vitamin C that can regulate free radicals and defeat oxidative stress. Vitamin E is also credited to protecting skin areas like the scalp from damage. Damaged skin of the scalp can lead to hair loss because of fewer hair follicles. Avocados are also a great source of essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce. These acids, however, are a building block of our cells. Therefore, the deficiency of these fatty acids has been linked with hair loss problems.

Nuts

Nuts have various hair benefiting nutrients, and additionally, they are tasty and convenient to eat. You will be surprised to know that an ounce of almonds contains 37% of your daily vitamin E needs. In addition to that, nuts contain vitamin B and its varieties, zinc and essential fatty acids. As mentioned, a deficiency in any of these can lead to hair loss.

Seeds

Seeds deliver a massive amount of nutrients with comparatively lesser calories. Many of those nutrients are beneficial for healthy hair like vitamin E, zinc and selenium. Your daily 50% of vitamin E needs with an additional array of vitamin B variants that promote hair growth can be found in an ounce of sunflower seeds. Seeds like flax seeds and chia seeds also have omega-three fatty acids that have been linked with healthy hair.

Sweet Peppers

Vitamin C aids healthy hair growth, and sweet peppers are a good source of it. One yellow pepper has 5.5 times vitamin C as found in an orange. Vitamin C is used for producing collagen that strengthens your hair. In addition, it’s a powerful antioxidant that combats oxidative stress. Sweet peppers also contain vitamin A.

Oysters

Oysters are a source of zinc. Zinc promotes hair growth and repairing cycles. Lack of zinc can cause effluvium, which is a reversible hair loss. However, too much zinc and you are aiding hair loss. Thus, food sources of zinc like oysters are better than supplements. The above list makes the relation between diet and hair loss evident. You can even consult an expert like Dr. Sunil Arora at ALCS India to know more about foods to eat to prevent hair loss.

What Is Chemical Peel?

chemical peel is a new concept in town. It has gained popularity in a relatively low time frame, and people recommend it because of its effective results. Let us know about various types of chemical peels in detail and see how they can change your skincare routine.

What is a chemical peel?

You may be wondering what a chemical peel is and why it has become the talk of the town.
Chemical peels enhance your skin quality and give you a radiant look. You can apply it to your face, hands, and neck. The chemical solutions exfoliate the skin and provide glowing skin. In addition, the peel removes the top layer of the skin and exposes the new skin, which is softer, smoother, and less wrinkled. You can use chemical peels to fight:

  • Sun damage
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Uneven skin tone or redness

You can choose the most suitable peel from different types of chemical peels to get the desired result.

Look at the various types of chemical peels

  • Superficial peels
It penetrates the outermost layer of the skin and consists of mild acids like alpha-hydroxy.
  • Medium peels
It is beneficial while removing the damaged cells and includes trichloroacetic or glycolic acid. It works on the middle and outer skin layers.
  • Deep peels
Deep peels remove damaged cells from the middle layer of the skin. It uses phenol or trichloroacetic acid.

Pollution and dead skin hide your natural glow and make the skin appear dull. These peels help you regain the lost glow.

The technique of chemical peeling

Chemical peels are carried out in a skin clinic as an outpatient procedure. The procedure starts with tying your hair at the back, and then your face is cleaned. Next, you are provided with eye protection gear, and the surgeon numbs the treatment area with topical anaesthesia. If you have chosen deep peel, then you will be given an IV. Your heart rate is also monitored during a deep chemical peel process. In a light chemical peel, salicylic acid is used in the treatment. The solution is applied to the skin with the help of a cotton ball or brush. You may experience a slight stinging sensation. You can notice the whitening of your skin, and once the procedure is complete, the solution is removed from your skin. A cotton-tipped applicator is used to apply trichloroacetic or glycolic acid on your skin during a medium peel. A blue pigment is added to trichloroacetic, and hence it is called the blue peel. You can notice the brightening of your skin and may feel a stinging sensation for about 20 minutes. A cool compress is used to control the burning sensation, and the doctor may give you a hand-held fan to cool down your skin. In deep peel, the procedure starts with giving sedation, and then a cotton-tipped applicator is used. Next, the applicator is used to apply phenol to the skin. The solution will turn your skin grey or white. The process is carried out in 15-minute portions to limit sun exposure to the acid.

Preparation tips for a chemical peel

After understanding what chemical peel is in detail, you need to prepare yourself for the process. First, you need to undergo a consultation round with your skin specialist. It will help you decide the most suitable peel for your skin. You will also get to know about the aftercare tips and the precautions you need to take. Your skin specialist may ask you about acne medications. Before a chemical peel, you must:

  • Not use retinol for at least 48 hours before the treatment.
  • Inform your skin specialist about the medication you take.
  • Not have been on Accutane for at least six months.

The skin specialist may recommend you to:

What are the Signs of Hairline Recession?

Most men do not notice any sign of a receding hairline until it is too late. If you are worried that you might be suffering from this problem, then you should learn about the signs of a receding hairline. You should use this knowledge to identify if you have this problem. If you are suffering from a receding hairline, you should contact a dermatologist or your nearest medical expert. He or she can help you get an FUE hair transplant. The signs of a receding hairline are mentioned below.

  • Uneven Hairline

There is an apparent difference between a naturally ageing hairline and a receding hairline. A hairline would naturally develop by pulling back in a consistent manner. On the other hand, a receding hairline would be pulled back unevenly. Usually, a receding hairline forms an M shape in the front. It is also common for a receding hairline to pull back too much from the temples, sides, and middle of the forehead. The hairline might also be pulled back from the backside of the scalp.

  • Thinning of Hair above the Temples

It is common for men suffering from a receding hairline to experience this type of hair thinning. This type of hair thinning usually occurs when the middle part of the hair recedes from the temples. It is also possible for women to experience this type of hair thinning. Usually, this type of hair thinning spreads to the top of the head as it progresses.

  • Unusual Hair Loss

As mentioned above, it is common for people to lose around 50 to 100 hair strands in a single day. But if you are losing more hair than this, then you might be experiencing a hairline recession.

What are the Causes of a Receding Hairline?

There are many reasons why one might experience a receding hairline. Some of those reasons are discussed below.

  • Age

Age is one of the most common reasons why an individual might be suffering from a receding hairline. There are thousands of hair follicles present on our heads. But as we age, these follicles become damaged, which results in a situation where the hairs fall but do not grow back correctly.

  • Genetics

It is also common for individuals to inherit the trait of receding hairline from their family members. This is one reason why it is more common for men and women to have a receding hairline if one of their family members also suffers from this problem. Other reasons for hairline recession include hormonal fluctuations and an unhealthy lifestyle.

Hair Loss Statistics You Should Know

It is needless to mention how protective and concerned we are about our hair. That being said, facing the problem of hair loss can be dramatically dreadful to a person’s mental and physical outlook. It can cause severe anxiety and stress and lack of confidence. Different individuals have their specific reasons for which they think they are losing hair. However, there is one condition that is surrounded by several myths, incorrect facts, and very often- intriguing stats. Below is mentioned a list of impressive stats regarding hair loss that one should know about.

About 90% of men consider hair loss as their primary concern

As less surprising as it is, this is an indisputable fact! Hair loss can be a deadening experience for most people and is also responsible for causing mental health issues like anxiety and stress. It hits hard on your self-confidence. You know it is a severe concern when 90% of men say that male-pattern baldness is their biggest concern. To overcome this problem and also the stress that it causes, many men consider hair transplant surgery, which helps them regain both -lost hair and confidence.

47% of men believe in myths surrounding genetics’ role in hair loss

It is scientifically proven that the condition of hair loss has an equal chance of being inherited from both maternal as well as the paternal side of the person suffering. However, most men are still under the impression that hair fall can be inherited genetically from only one side of their family. This is mere disbelief only and must be treated accordingly.

About 50% of women have the possibility and tendency of suffering from hair loss

The outlook is slightly different in women. Unlike men, women are found to face thinning hair, i.e., reduction in volume, in case of hair loss. And considering the percentage acquired by studies, one can infer that alopecia is not only prone to men but also women.

To understand the root causes, symptoms, and treatment options, explore our comprehensive hair loss detailed guide for a complete overview.

Most men (almost 6 out of 10) cant’ identify/differentiate a hair transplant

With the passing of time and advancement of technology, several new procedures of hair transplants have been brought into sight. The two most common and useful are the Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE, where individual hair follicles are extracted surgically from dense growth areas and grafted into the balding area according to requirement). Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT (where an entire strip of scalp skin containing healthy hair follicles is removed surgically from a dense growth field, separated as per requirement, and then grafted where and as needed). These techniques make it highly challenging to identify that a hair transplant is even there. It is that close to the original look!  In 2009, a study was carried out by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. They found that three-fifths of the people who went through the survey couldn’t identify a hair transplant. All thanks to modernization and technology.

50% of hair disappears before the condition becomes noticeable

This is a stat that is as horrifying as it sounds. What is more appalling is that most people aren’t even aware of it. It is highly advisable to opt for a hair transplant treatment as soon as possible. It is so because you might be suffering from a hair loss problem because you feel excellent, and your hair feels intact. By the time you notice and finally think of going through the surgery, you will have lost about 50% of your hair. With hair transplant costs going down daily, it is becoming more popular among men and women alike. It has become the most go-to solution to treat a hair loss problem. It is so for its effectiveness. It is widely generalized across the country in several states.  ALCS clinic, Jaipur, is one of the most renowned hair transplant clinics in the country due to its exceptionally well trained cosmetic surgeons and provides top-notch service to their patients. Be it their expertise, patient information confidentiality, service, or usage of high-end tech; they excel in all. There have been great reviews from patients who considered getting hair transplants from ALCS.

What Are The Causes Of Baldness?

What Exactly Is Balding?

Typically, after you shampoo or oil your hair, you lose some hair. But if you experience hair fall at a faster rate than usual, that’s an indication of balding. Balding is a commonly used term for androgenetic alopecia or male or female pattern hair loss. Genetics and the natural ageing process can usually be the leading causes of baldness. Typically, the three phases of the hair growth cycle are:

  • Anagen Phase: Roughly 90 percent of the scalp hair is in this phase, which lasts around 2 to 4 years. In the anagen or growing phase, hair roots split up rapidly and add to the hair shaft.
  • Catagen Phase: During 2 to 3 weeks, the hair follicles shrink in this phase. It’s called catagen or transition phase. The hair is cut off from the blood supply and cells that produce new hair.
  • Telogen Phase: 3 to 4 months later, the hair sheds in this phase and is called telogen or resting phase. Until the growth of new anagen hair, the resting hair remains in the follicle.

Some common symptoms of balding are top hair thinning, receded hairline for men and broad hair parting in women.

What Causes Balding?

One of the primary reasons for balding is androgenetic alopecia, or pattern baldness. According to studies, androgenetic alopecia is the reason for baldness in over 95 percent of permanent hair loss cases. It is not necessarily a disease but a condition associated with genetics, regular ageing, and androgen, a hormone found in males. Genetics influence the key enzymes like 5-alpha reductase that transforms the testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), both androgens. That’s why genetics is one of the significant factors of androgenetic alopecia. It is one of the main reasons for baldness in males. The hair follicle shrinks with an increase in DHT or when it becomes more susceptible to the DHT. Due to this increase, the growing or anagen phase diminishes, causing the hair to fall faster, resulting in hair loss. Pattern hair loss in men or women happens over time. In men, the hairline starts receding and thinning starts appearing on top of their head. For women, their hair partings become broader.

You can prevent several other reasons for baldness by

  • Loosening the hairstyle: Braiding hair or tying ponytails can tighten the hair too much. It can damage the hair.
  • Do not use hair straighteners/curlers or blow dryers too often. Too much heat can be one of the causes of baldness.
  • Scalp massage: Massaging with oils can be perfect for your hair. But overdoing can also put stress on the hair and damage the follicles.
  • A healthy diet rich in nutrients is good for the growth of hair.
  • Certain studies show that smoking can be a reason for baldness in males and females as well. So quitting can help the body in various ways, including hair loss prevention.
  • If your ongoing medications are causing hair loss, you must contact your doctor for alternatives.

Following the above can prevent hair fall. Let’s answer the most common myth; baldness is not caused by shampooing, dandruff or wearing hats!

Other Possible Causes of Hair Loss or Bald Spots

In most cases, baldness is caused by androgenetic alopecia. But other conditions can also induce hair loss, like,

  • Traction alopecia: Tight ponytails, braids, hair extensions, etc., cause Traction alopecia, which is due to too much stress on the hair follicles.
  • Alopecia areata: In alopecia areata, the body attacks its hair follicles, damaging the hair roots, resulting in hair loss.
  • Anagen effluvium: Often related to chemotherapy in cancer patients, a toxic substance weakens the hair follicle in this condition during the anagen phase. Radiation therapy can also cause this condition.
  • Telogen effluvium: Usually, after a surgery, physical trauma or illness, hair loss is induced in this condition due to shock or stress. Often, the hair grows back in about 2 to 6 months.
  • Tinea capitis: In tinea capitis (scalp ringworm), the scalp and hair shaft are infected by fungi, resulting in a scaly patch.

As mentioned earlier, there can be various reasons for baldness. But you should always consult a dermatologist before self speculating.

The Bottom Line

Often in men or women, the primary cause of baldness is androgenetic alopecia. It is also called pattern hair loss, which causes hair thinning, receding hairline in men and widening of parting in women. If you think that you might have started balding, consult a dermatologist or visit ALCS India. You can also look for our online consultation. The doctor will start treatment for it depending on the cause.

Today’s Breast Augmentation Trends

Breast Augmentation is also famous as Mammoplasty, a cosmetic surgical procedure that increases breast size where the breast implant needs to be positioned under the breast tissues or the chest muscles. This is a beneficial procedure that can make women feel more confident and sensual. So if you are the one who wants to undergo a breast augmentation procedure, it is incredibly essential to consult with an experienced plastic surgeon. Now when finding a plastic surgeon, you must get someone whom you can trust. You must also make sure that you choose a board-certified surgeon only who holds several years of experience in this field. If you are trying to find the best cosmetic surgeon near Jaipur, then cherry-pick ALCS clinic. The clinic consists of Dr. Sunil Arora, who is the most experienced and the leading cosmetic surgeon in Jaipur.

Who is considered an ideal candidate for Breast Augmentation?

You will be scheduling an initial consultation with the plastic surgeon for breast augmentation once you have selected a cosmetic surgeon. Following are the factors that must be considered-

  • You have to be in an overall good health condition
  • You must be above the age of 10 to 21 to ensure that you have a developed body
  • You are not very satisfied with the shape and size of the breasts because they are too small
  • You probably have an asymmetrical breast
  • You have experienced changes in the breast shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss or aging
  • You must have a realistic expectation about the procedure

What are the different implants available?

Numerous implant choices are widely available. Some of the most common implants include saline, silicone, or some traditional breast implant. The silicone implant has passed trough five improvements since the year 1962. However, the final fifth-generation depicts some striking enhancements. The silicone implant is available with some cohesiveness that comes with some benefits, including high-strength, low rates of capsular contracture, shell rupture, and better appearance compared to any other quality of implants. The bottom line is it is almost impossible to find the most appropriate breast implant unless you get the best suggestions from your cosmetic surgeon. Choosing the proper implant size and position for the body may depend on several factors that will be explained to you before undergoing the procedure.

What to expect?

Once the surgeon concludes, you may be the right candidate for the procedure after a comprehensive exam. Your surgeon will also analyze your breast’s shape, size, implant options before undergoing the process, or incision placement options. Preoperative and postoperative operation recovery will be discussed, including related side effects, limitations of the activity, and the related postoperative instructions.

Breast Augmentation procedure

Any cosmetic surgeon will administer local or general anesthesia to the patients so that the patients feel comfortable during the process. The breast implant is embedded either at the crease under the breast (inframammary)or the arm (axillary) or around the periareolar region. The surgeon will then separate the breast tissues from the muscles and the connective tissues before making an incision. This gives rise to a pocket-like structure in front of the chest wall’s outermost muscle. Finally, the surgeon will place the implant into the pocket right behind the nipple. In case you have selected saline implants, it is first fitted and then filled with sterile water. While if you choose silicone implants, then it will be implanted pre-filled silicone gel. At the end of the procedure, the incision is closed and then bandaged with some skin adhesive or surgical tape. Immediately after undergoing the procedure, you may experience soreness and swelling, which will last for a few weeks, and then it will disappear completely with time. During the recovery period, you must strictly adhere to the surgeon’s post-op instructions. Also, wearing a compression garment or a sports bra is essential to provide support to the new breast implant.Following the post-op instructions about returning to regular activities is essential for quick recovery. Strenuous activities must be strictly avoided for at least two weeks to maintain the result. However, in case if you experience some unusual discomfort, it is essential to contact your surgeon for the best advice.
